Description
This butter-free cream cheese frosting is a lighter, tangier alternative to traditional frosting. It’s perfect for cakes, cupcakes, cinnamon rolls, and more. Quick, easy, and made with just a few simple ingredients!
Ingredients
Scale
- 8 oz (225 g) cream cheese, softened
- 2–3 cups (240–360 g) powdered sugar, sifted
- 2–3 tablespoons heavy cream or milk, as needed
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Optional: A squeeze of lemon juice or almond extract for added flavor
Instructions
- Prepare Ingredients: Soften the cream cheese at room temperature. Sift powdered sugar into a bowl.
- Beat Cream Cheese: In a large mixing bowl, beat the cream cheese on medium speed for 1–2 minutes until creamy and smooth.
- Add Powdered Sugar: Reduce speed to low and gradually add powdered sugar, mixing well after each addition.
- Add Vanilla & Adjust Consistency: Mix in vanilla extract. If too thick, add 1 tablespoon of heavy cream/milk at a time until the desired consistency is reached.
- Beat Until Fluffy: Increase to medium-high speed and beat for 1–2 minutes until light and fluffy.
- Chill (Optional): If the frosting is too soft, refrigerate for 15–20 minutes before using.
Notes
- Use room-temperature cream cheese to prevent lumps.
- Sifting powdered sugar ensures a smooth texture.
- For a stiffer frosting, add more powdered sugar.
- Refrigerate leftovers in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
