Description

This Homemade Halloween Chocolate Cake is rich, moist, and packed with deep cocoa flavor. It’s the perfect treat to get into the spooky spirit, with endless decoration possibilities to match the Halloween theme!

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients:

  • 1 3/4 cups (220g) all-purpose flour

  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder

  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda

  • 3/4 cup (75g) unsweetened cocoa powder

  • 2 cups (400g) granulated sugar

  • 1 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients:

  • 2 large eggs

  • 1 cup (240ml) whole milk

  • 1/2 cup (120ml) vegetable oil

  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

  • 1 cup (240ml) boiling water

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans or line them with parchment paper.

  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients: flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, sugar, and salt.

  3. Add the wet ingredients (except the boiling water) to the dry mixture: eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Mix until well combined.

  4. Slowly add the boiling water to the batter while stirring continuously. The batter will be thin, but this step is crucial for a moist texture.

  5. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.

  6. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  7. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

  8. Frost and decorate as desired for a spooky Halloween look!

Notes

  1. For extra moisture, store the cake covered at room temperature for up to 3 days.
  2. You can replace whole milk with almond, oat, or soy milk for a dairy-free version.
  3. Decorate with candy eyes, edible tombstones, or a spooky spiderweb frosting for a festive touch!
