Description

This easy oven-baked beef short ribs recipe delivers fall-apart tenderness and rich BBQ flavor. Slow-baked to perfection, these ribs are perfect for a comforting dinner or weekend treat.

Ingredients

Scale

  • 4 pounds (about 1.8 kg) beef short ribs (bone-in or boneless)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (or any neutral cooking oil)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup BBQ sauce (homemade or store-bought)
  • 1/2 cup beef broth (for extra moisture)
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce (optional)

Instructions

  • Prepare the Ribs

    • Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C).
    • Pat the ribs dry with paper towels to help the seasoning adhere.
    • Rub the ribs with olive oil for even coating.
  • Season the Ribs

    • In a small bowl, mix together salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and brown sugar.
    • Generously coat the ribs with the seasoning blend, pressing it into the meat.
  • Sear the Ribs (Optional but Recommended)

    • Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat.
    • Add a little olive oil and sear the ribs for 2–3 minutes per side until browned.
  • Prepare for Baking

    • Place the seared ribs in a baking dish or roasting pan in a single layer.
    • In a small bowl, mix together BBQ sauce, beef broth, and Worcestershire sauce. Pour over the ribs.
  • Bake the Ribs

    • Cover the dish tightly with aluminum foil to trap moisture.
    • Bake for 2.5 to 3 hours, or until the ribs are tender and fall-apart soft.
  • Glaze and Finish

    • Remove the foil during the last 15–20 minutes of baking.
    • Brush with additional BBQ sauce and let them caramelize.
    • Rest the ribs for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For extra depth of flavor, marinate the ribs overnight in the seasoning mix.
  • If you prefer crispy edges, broil the ribs for the last 5 minutes of cooking.
